Nehemiah

“The God of heaven will give us success…”

“Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

“…Our God will fight for us!”

“…they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.”

“They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read.”

“Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

“They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers. They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the LORD their God.”

“Stand up and praise the LORD your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting.”
       “Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. 6 You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.”

“You have kept your promise because you are righteous.”

“But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.”

“You gave your good Spirit to instruct them.”

“By your Spirit you admonished them through your prophets.”

“In all that has happened to us, you have been just; you have acted faithfully, while we did wrong.”

“And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.”

Ecclesiastes 12:13, 14

Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

Ecclesiastes 12:1

Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them”-

Ecclesiastes 11:5

As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
the Maker of all things.

Ecclesiastes 10:18, 19

If a man is lazy, the rafters sag;
       if his hands are idle, the house leaks.

A feast is made for laughter,
       and wine makes life merry,
       but money is the answer for everything.

Ecclesiastes 10:10

If the ax is dull
       and its edge unsharpened,
       more strength is needed
       but skill will bring success.

Ecclesiastes 9:3-6, 10

This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. Anyone who is among the living has hope—even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!

For the living know that they will die,
       but the dead know nothing;
       they have no further reward,
       and even the memory of them is forgotten.

Their love, their hate
       and their jealousy have long since vanished;
       never again will they have a part
       in anything that happens under the sun.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

Ecclesiastes 8:7, 8

Since no man knows the future,
       who can tell him what is to come?

No man has power over the wind to contain it;
       so no one has power over the day of his death.
       As no one is discharged in time of war,
       so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

Ecclesiastes 7:20

There is not a righteous man on earth
       who does what is right and never sins.

Ecclesiastes 7:14

When times are good, be happy;
       but when times are bad, consider:
       God has made the one
       as well as the other.
       Therefore, a man cannot discover
       anything about his future.
